The Brea Library will be unveiling its brand new building sign!!!!!
The Friends of the Brea Library are hosting a celebratory reception and unveiling on Saturday, January 14. In honor of the library’s 95 years of service, new library signage will be unveiled on that date.
In 1921 Brea citizens lobbied for a County library system and the Brea branch became the first of 33 branches. Although it was located in various buildings over the 95 years, the library has been in the Brea Civic and Cultural Center since 1981.
The reception on January 14 will take place at 10 a.m. and will be emceed by the Friends of the Brea Library president, Stu Lerner. Many City and County officials will be present to share their thoughts on the unique library partnership.
Tours of the library will follow the unveiling of the new signs and refreshments will be provided. Library staff and Friends Board of Directors will guide the tours which will highlight the various activities of the library.

LIBRARY SCIENCE FICTION EVENT
A science fiction and fantasy author event is being presented at the Brea Library on Saturday, November 12 at 11 a.m. Three prominent local figures in the world of science fiction literature will participate in a panel discussion, speak individually and answer questions from the audience.
Nalo Hopkinson, an award winning author and editor is one of the featured speakers. She is also a professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside. She has published several award winning books.
Todd McCaffrey is a New York Times bestselling science fiction and fantasy author who has written more than a dozen books. He is best known for continuing the Dragonriders of Pern series in collaboration with his mother Anne McCaffrey.
John Joseph Adams is the editor of a science fiction/fantasy Imprint. He is also the series editor of Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy and many other anthologies.
Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore of San Diego will be on hand and will make books available for purchase and signing. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Brea Library and a generous grant from Arisia Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the science fiction and fantasy genres.
The Brea Library is located in the Plaza level of the Brea Civic and Cultural Center at the corner of Randolph and Birch. Parking is free in the underground level.
